Pacific IWRM Resource Centre's Achievements 05 November, 2011  Since the inception of the Pacific IWRM Resource Center in late 2008, SOPAC’s water program has produced a large number of information, education and communication materials.

These materials are being distributed to participating countries through various water sector programmes and are also promoted and distributed via the web based Pacific IWRM Resource Centre.

The Resource Centre supports the Pacific Partnership Initiative on Sustainable Water Management (PPISWM), which is a voluntary partnership of regional water and wastewater stakeholders.

The Resource Centre is also part of the Asia-Pacific Water Forum’s (APWF) network of knowledge hubs. These knowledge hubs are dedicated to improving sustainable water management by championing best practices, boosting investments, building capacity, and enhancing cooperation throughout the Asia-Pacific region.

Together, the hubs collaborate to generate and share knowledge and develop capacity in more than a dozen water knowledge domains. There are two such hubs based out of the Pacific; the International Water Centre (IWC) Hub for Healthy Rivers and Aquatic Ecosystems and our very own Pacific Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) Resource Centre. The Pacific IWRM Resource Centre was established as a priority action under the region’s Portfolio of Water Actions and is funded through the EU Water Facility.

To date there are approximately 850 partners involved through the PPISWM. Since its inception the Hub has produced many products for its target audience including Pacific Partnership Initiative on Sustainable Water Management newsletters, Pacific Water Website (www.pacificwater.org), IWRM toolkits, National Apex Body guidelines, IWRM information and planning brochures, Resource Centre leaflets to name a few. A snapshot of these products is presented in the picture above. Alongside this, the Hub has worked tirelessly to provide regional technical assistance and consultancies to help countries progress with IWRM and coordinate regional water sector support programmes (Water demand Management, Water Quality Monitoring, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene and Water Safety Planning)

The Pacific IWRM Resource Centre will continue to provide such assistance to the PIC’s and will look to improve its delivery mechanisms making it more efficient in addressing water priority issues in the region.
