Country Level Implementation- Niue
Niue
A capacity building mission (March 2008) was carried out in Niue after the initial scoping and assessment visit in February 2007. Hands-on training on proper water sample collection and testing techniques, QA/QC procedures, SOPs, record keeping and result interpretation was provided to build capacity for the laboratory to carry out its role with confidence. The template shows that the Niue water laboratory has improved from rating as fair in 2007 (baseline assessment) to getting close to satisfactory in 2008.

Currently through the WQM programme efforts, the Department of Health is investing in expanding the laboratory infrastructure in line with good laboratory practices of ensuring appropriate separation between the microbiological and chemical testing areas. It is anticipated that the current ranking will improve further as implementation of some of the activities like practicing QA/QC and equipment calibration are put into practice and with the expanded laboratory working area.
