Regional IWRM Training Presentations
The IWRM programme has held training sessions to inform its stakeholders about the programmes, the processes and to provide general information and updates. The training sessions have been conducted also to facilitate the country focal points in moving forward the IWRM process and also providing them the opportunity to meet directly with programme managers one on one. This provides and enabling environment where the IWRM focal points are able to get direct answers and clarify their doubts. One on one interaction also contributes to strengthening of partnerships and building of trust and in the long term will contribute towards the success of the project.

In light of this, the presentations used in the training sessions are available here for use with the requirement you acknowledge any content used for any purpose. These can be downloaded and used using Acrobat Reader.

1) Second Meeting of the Regional Project Steering Committee for the Global Environment Facility Funded project  "Implementing Sustainable  Water Resources and Wastewater Management in Pacific Island Countries", and the EU funded IWRM Planning  Programme. Republic of Palau, 19th  - 23rd July 2010

The Second Regional Steering committee (RSC) meeting for the GEF funded project "Implementing Sustainable Water Resources and Wastewater Management in Pacific Island Countries", and the EU Funded IWRM Planning Programme was an opportunity to discuss matters pertaining to the RSC as well as provide an update on the project status to participating member countries and partners.

Key items of business requiring the attention of the RSC included: review of project status, particularly the project’s budgetary shortfall; assessment of progress in the project’s suite of national IWRM demonstration projects; consideration of the regional initiative to establish an IWRM and Water Use Efficiency (WUE) indicator framework; review of national policy, legislative, and institutional reforms being undertaken in support of IWRM and improved WUE; provision of guidance to the development of the project’s IWRM capacity building and training programme; and identification of strategies to incorporate climate variability and change into IWRM in Pacific Island Countries.

Leadership Training Seminar; Improving Water Planning and Management (14-24th July, 2009, Hawaii)Micronesia has critical water and sanitation issues that are exacerbated by climate variability. The Pacific Islands Applied Geoscience Commission (SOPAC), in partnership with the East West Centre held a meeting in Honolulu, Hawaii to assist countries from the North Pacific develop a roadmap that deals with these issues.

Countries participating in the meeting included the Federated States of Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau. A broad range of key stakeholders involved in the IWRM process were invited to the workshop and included information specialists, NGOs, public utility managers, environment protection officials, national planners and senior civil servants.

The meeting aimed to build bridges between stakeholders at the national level and relationships across borders.

The workshop covered effective communication, leadership and consensus building, negotiation, and creative strategies to develop an inclusive and wide ranging IWRM programme for each country.
